I had the good fortune to spend 6 Seasons creating Virtual Environments for the ABC/Disney Series ONCE UPON A TIME. Working with the Production Designer during Pre-Production and Production I designed and modeled environments, textured them, and whenever possible lit and rendered them for concept art. Those models and textures were sent to ZOIC (ONCE’s VFX Provider), adapted by them to use in the Z.E.U.S. camera system for visualization while shooting on green screen, and then used for the final shot preparation during Post Production. This allowed ONCE’s Production Designer more control over the creation of these assets since it happened “in house” during Production rather than purely during Post Production. It also alllowed ZOIC to focus on adapting and integrating them into the final shots rather than having to start from ground zero creating the raw assets. Models were created and textured in AutoDesSys formZ. Rendering was done in either Next Limit’s Maxwell Render, or Solid Iris’ Thea Render.
